Happy Halloween!

Since some of you have asked what Nate was for Halloween, I guess I have to start the post with Nate's costume debacle....I thought I would be crafty this year, and not go the store-bought route for his first real Halloween costume. I wanted him to stand out in the crowd! So I decided I wanted to make him a garden gnome complete with red pointy hat and beard. I thought my arts and crafts project had come together rather nicely, until I put it on him (on Halloween) and he looked like a homeless dwarf. :( He HATED the beard I made (which actually did shed pretty bad) and keeping the pointy hat on wasn't happening.
Luckily (I think?), Michael did not trust that I was going to pull this off (guess he knows the limitations of my craft abilities) and had bought a back up puppy costume from the store. After a certain point of gnome frustration, I conceded and let him go the "easy" route. Ha! He hated that more! How much humilitation can one kid take??Finally the tears ended and he left the house dressed as a "kid in a blue sweat suit".

So, Nate is probably still a little young to really appreciate Halloween and the whole Trick-or-Treating thing, but we did it any way! And he had a pretty little partner in crime, too - Elaine. We had dinner at Elaine's house and then hit the streets in her neighborhood. They had such a fun time together. It was such a nice cool fall night for it! Nate ultimately humored me and wore his beard (albeit backwards) so he at least kinda looked like he was wearing a costume. I am sure people were confused by the kid in the blue suite with the furry cape?? We hit up a few houses, got me - I mean Nate - some candy and then headed home to put our little gnome to bed.

That is hilarious! I love the gnome suit and am impressed with your crafty talent. However, not as impressed as I am with Michael buying a back up suit. What a planner--love it! Regardless, NAte looked precious. And we missed you all! Maybe next year??

Nice try, Erin! I commend you for your efforts, I wasn't nearly that brave - coming from a mom who definitely went the store bought costume route. Nate is a cutie pie regardless and I think both outfits look great, even if he didn't like them. Glad you all had a fun and memorable Halloween!
